Summer Retreat June 27- July 5:
"Back to Basics ˆ Reinvigorating Ananda Marga"
This year the extraordinary opportunity of organizing the Summer Conference was given over to the young Margiis of our organization. As a result of this, almost all of the main planning has been done by Margiis under the age of thirty. Far from being a "youth-themed" retreat, however, main in-charge duties have been given to young and senior Margiis alike, as well as to our esteemed Acaryas. The result is that this year's upcoming conference promises to be the most integrative conference in decades.
Normally, every year a theme is chosen: "PROUT," for example, and then programs are given that relate to the main theme. This year, however, every day will be themed according to the eight-limbs of astaunga yoga, moving upwards as they relate to the kosas, or layers of existence: asanas, yama and niyama, pranayama, pratyahara, dharana, dhyana and samadhi. The result of this will be inter-connected, dynamic programs that, far from being disparate or stand-alone, will build upon each other, all leading to the devotional climax of over twenty-four hours of kiirtan on "samadhi day."
What to Bring
Ananda Kanan dormitories are furnished with bunks and mattressses, so bring whatever sheets or blankets you need. Bring your own toilet items and enough clothing for seven days as laundry facilities are located in town. In case of emergencies or sickness, the AMURTEL clinic will provide first aid, natural medication and natural treatments. Non-prescription drugs, tobacco, alcohol and pets are prohibited.
Cameras and camcorders are welcome but Ananda Kanan will not be responsible for any loss or damage. If you have any musical instruments please bring them to enrich the kiirtan. Dormitory accommodation is limited so we encourage everyone who can to bring a tent. Accommodations are provided on a first come first served basis. However, we will always try to accommodate those of fragile health and/or those with special needs.
